翻译之艺术

孟子曰：“我善养吾浩然之气。”是气也，寓于寻常之中，而塞乎天地之间，卒然遇之，则王公失其贵，晋楚失其富，良平失其智，贲育失其勇，仪秦失其辩。（苏轼《潮州韩文公庙碑》） Mencius said, "I am able to nourish my divine spirit." That spirit may lodge in a specified area; but its volume fills all space. For him who possesses it, the honours of princes and kings, the wealth of millionaires, the sagacity of counsellors, the courage of heroes, the subtlety of diplomatists,—these are but empty names.
