REVIEWS OF <THE SPIRIT OF CHINESE>
As we all know , Gu HongMing ,who wrote <The Spirits of Chinese> , is a master of Chinese culture and he was very proficient in nine languages.I have to say he was a great man who deserve our respect.
This book has made a big difference on the young people at that time which encouraged them to struggle for a rich and independent country.
What are the spirits of Chinese？In the eyes of Mr.Gu , China is an unique country that has a long history and has a magnificent culture and the spirits bred by the culture are gentleness/sympathy/politeness and so on which is very different from others.For an instance, Mr.Gu thinks,should be valued in a civilization,must see it “can produce what kind of person , what kind of man and woman”.And Chinese people left the impression kind , sort of unspeakable goodness and gentleness and they live a life like kids -- a kind of spiritual life.
In this book , Mr.Gu also analyzed the foreign religion and Confucianism . Why the religion is so important in history ? Because it can give person a feeling of security and permanence . And he thinked that Confucianism can take place of religion because it not only can give the same feeling but also prevent Chinese people from the conflict between head and heart . These words makes me know Confucianism better and makes me have an interest in it.
Although Mr.Gu was very knowledgeable , I have to say that his opinions are not all correct especially on Chinese woman . He thinks Chinese feminine idea is summed in there obediences and four virtues which means Chinese women live for others in their whole lives. What’s more , he thinks it is selflessness for women to accept that her husband as many handmaids or concubines as he like . In my opinion , it shows women are not respected , and woman as likely as man make a contribution to family so they should be treated equally. In this era of equality , this ideology should be abandoned.
As we all know , this is a time of rapid growth and opportunity , but we are also placed in an inside Chinese culture to turn the extreme diffident ages . So we should read this book in depth which can help us build our confidence and encourage us to work hard. As Mr.Gu said China is not good at technology , we have a long way to become strong and make the Chinese dream come true . Our teenagers is supposed to spare no effort to study . But for traditional cultures , we ‘d better discard the dregs and select the essence .
Last but not least , it’s no doubtful that this book is meaningful and I learned a lot from it .And I believe we can do it by working hard.
