The symbolism

Marlin symbolizes people's idea things. In the old man's heart, the big marlin is a lifelong goal. It also symbolizes the achievements of the Cuban people in their national independence and liberation movement. The sea symbolizes the cruelty of the society, just like the society in America at that time which is full of danger and violence. The old man explores in the dangerous sea, trying to find his idea fish. In our society, we should also struggle to achieve our dream.
