  “The old man” means human beings，“the sea” means the nature. And human beings live in harmony with the nature and cannot be separated. In this passage, the author had a detailed description of the old man and his living and working environment, the sea. Such drastic gambling illustrates the theme that we need know the state of mind in which we live in our lives and further understand how to adapt to self-development, how to meet self-needs, how to recognize ourselves, and how to find ourselves.
