My View on Gatsby

I finished reading The Great Gatsby written by Fitzgerald. Set in the Jazz Age of the 1920s, it tells Gatsby’s sad love story for Daisy. Gatsby chases his dream with all his efforts. He earns a large fortune just to attract Daisy and recapture their old sweet days. He holds tight to his beautiful memories and regards Daisy as the whole meaning of his life. Unfortunately, Daisy is shallow and selfish. When she hits someone with her car, she chooses to escape and lets Gatsby bear all the blame. Finally, Gatsby is killed, and almost nobody comes to his funeral. His tragic ending fully reflects the broken American Dream. The gap between different social classes can never be crossed easily. This book makes me realize that blind obsession with the past cannot bring real happiness. We should face reality bravely instead of chasing an impossible fantasy. It is truly a meaningful classic worth reading again.
