This semester, I finished reading The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, a classic novel depicting the American Dream in the 1920s.
The story centers on Jay Gatsby, who amasses wealth desperately to win
back his lost lover Daisy. Yet his whole pursuit ends in tragedy, with
his lonely death ignored by nearly everyone he once knew. Through
Gatsby’s sad fate, the author exposes the emptiness behind material
prosperity and the disillusionment of the American Dream. What
impresses me most is Gatsby’s persistent but blind devotion. It makes me
realize that chasing unrealistic fantasies and valuing superficial
luxury over true feelings will only lead to loss. This book also
broadens my understanding of Western social history and improves my
English reading skills. It is truly a thought-provoking masterpiece
worth reading repeatedly.
