He stubbornly chases an unrealistic dream and finally ends up in tragedy, which perfectly shows how superficial and fragile material prosperity can be. Fitzgerald uses delicate language and vivid symbolism to criticize social inequality and people’s blind pursuit of money. The ending is sorrowful but thought-provoking. Overall, it is a timeless classic that teaches readers that true happiness can never be gained through illusions or wealth.
