宇宙无敌爆炸第一帅

Written by Joan Pinkham, The Translator's Guide to Chinglish is a practical book that every English learner needs. After learning English for years, I always found my writing stiff and unnatural, and my teachers often pointed out that I was using typical Chinglish. That is why I decided to read this book.

The author once worked in China for a long time and got to know well about the problems Chinese people have in English expression. Instead of using hard professional terms, she uses countless real sentences collected from articles and translations to show our mistakes. She mainly talks about word redundancy, meaningless repetition and illogical sentence order. These are exactly the problems most of us ignore.

The biggest gain for me is learning the core rule of English: being concise. Influenced by Chinese habits, we tend to add extra words to make sentences sound complete, but this only makes English wordy. The book not only marks out errors, but also gives revised versions and detailed explanations. There are also follow-up exercises for us to practice.

This book does not focus on difficult grammar or rare vocabulary. It solves the most basic but vital problems in daily writing and translation. After reading it, I start to check every sentence carefully and cut unnecessary words. My English writing has improved obviously. To anyone who struggles with Chinglish, I strongly recommend this useful and easy-to-understand book.
