The Old Man and the Sea is a powerful short novel by Hemingway. The old fisherman Santiago fights bravely with the huge marlin in the sea alone. Though he finally gets only its skeleton, he never gives up. The story shows the spirit of “a man can be destroyed but not defeated”. It tells us courage, persistence and dignity are more important than success. No matter how hard life is, we should face difficulties bravely and never lose hope. This simple story inspires me greatly and encourages me to keep strong when meeting challenges.
