Chapter 1

After reading the first chapter, what impressed me most was that when Heathcliff first met Lockwood, "his fingers shrank back without touching the other's hand". Even the most basic handshake etiquette was omitted. This deliberate alienation made people feel colder than straightforward bad words. It instantly outlined his lonely and vigilant character, which also made people puzzled: Why is he so reluctant to be close to people? These details can't help but make me wonder what happened in such an indifferent place?
