My thoughts

The book The Elements of Style is popular among English learners. It is
a forty - three - page summation emphasizing the importance of
cleanliness, accuracy, and brevity in the use of English. One of the
authors, Professor Strunk, summed up seven rules of usage, eleven
principles of composition, a few matters of form, and a list of words
and expressions commonly misused. This book lists similar sentences,
compares their differences, and then naturally explains and guides
English learners to understand some principles and rules of English. It
helps them better grasp how to speak proper English. For example, the
author compares "He was not very often on time" and "He
usually came late," explaining that it is better to express even a
negative idea in a positive form. By listing classic examples, it makes
those tricky English rules easy to understand and apply, making English
learning easier and more interesting. In conclusion, The Elements of
Style was Will Strunk's parvum opus. It was his attempt to simplify the
complex web of English rhetoric and distill its rules and principles
into a concise form.
