The Old Man and the Sea
柯美珊
"However, man is not made for failure,""A man can be
destroyed, but not defeated."After reading this book,I only remember
this shocking sentence and the repeated battles between the old man
Santiago and the big fish. The old man hadn’t caught any fish for 85
days, but he still went out to sea without hesitation. This time,he fought
against the big fish.I saw him give himself one chance after another in
despair.Eventually,he caught a big marlin, which consumed almost all of
his energy. But reality was not like that.On the way back,he encountered
sharks again,as if they were joking with him.The fish he caught was
snatched away by sharks again, and in the end,he almost got nothing. But
throughout the process,he dared to resist and persisted until the
end, reflecting the humanistic brilliance of daring to resist and never
giving up.The vast and boundless sea is like our lives, and those
repeated waves are like the setbacks in life. The big marlin that the old
man wanted to catch is like the goal we want to pursue time and
again. The ugly shark is like an evil stumbling block on the road of
life. What we should learn from the old man is his optimistic and
positive attitude, tenacious will, and the spirit of striving with all
one’s might to pursue the goal.
