The second chapter of Oliver Twist mainly tells the story of Oliver Twist's growth, education, and dietary situation.
Oliver spent most of his time in an orphanage, where living conditions were harsh and food was scarce. Nevertheless, Oliver still struggled to adapt to this life, despite his anticipation and longing for the future. In addition, this chapter briefly mentions Oliver's education situation. Despite being in a resource limited environment, he still had the opportunity to receive basic education, which laid a certain foundation for his future life. In terms of dietary conditions, the limited food provided by the orphanage was described, as well as how Oliver and other children worked hard to adapt to these difficult eating conditions.
