Reaction after Tess
陈璟艺
Tess, a beautiful and simple country girl, her fate is like a curse,
full of frustrations and misfortune. She was born in a village in Dorset
County, and once she discovered that her family came from a very old
aristocratic family, and was forced to go to the D 'Urbervilles to meet
her relatives out of family considerations, and it was this kindness
that led to her unhappy life. She comes from a poor family, but has a
noble blood, which makes her struggle between love and dignity. Her love
with Claire, like a bright fireworks, short and gorgeous, but doomed to
be unable to last. Tess's love road is full of twists and turns and
tribulations. She loved Claire dearly, but suffered untold pain because
of his overvaluing of family honor. Clare's departure, Tess fell into
the abyss of despair, in order to survive, she had to endure the world's
ridicule and insult. And when she meets Claire again, the love that has
been hidden for a long time burns up like wildfire, which she can't
resist. Tess is kind and sincere, but the society can not tolerate her,
on the wedding night she chose to tell her past to the man she loves,
but was abandoned by the lover. When Hardy wrote the classic novel
Tess, Britain was in the era of Industrial Revolution, the whole society
had great material prosperity, and the class division was becoming
increasingly obvious, so the theme of his novel would naturally focus on
the difficult fate of people in this period, especially the people at
the bottom. With his unique narrative style and profound insight into
human nature, Mr. Hardy let me see the complexity and beauty of human
nature. Although Puss has suffered all kinds of misfortune, she always
maintains kindness and innocence. She fights against the injustice of
fate in her own way, and her tenacity and bravery make me deeply admire.
Both before and now, women seem never to be allowed to make mistakes,
even if they are forced to submit to violence, and even how many
families still continue the idea of male superiority. The most common
voices I heard from my elders were: girls must get married and have
children, girls will be despised if they can't cook or do housework,
what is the use of girls reading so many books, etc., why girls should
be restricted, I recalled a documentary I saw a long time ago, women,
which interviewed more than 100 women of different ages in different
regions. I find that women at each stage have different charms, such as
youthful vitality in their teens, mature and intellectual in their 30s,
and wise and playful in their 70s. Women are the most beautiful only
when they love themselves. They are glad that they get married because
of love, have a partner who respects and loves me, have family members
who support me no matter what happens, and have friends who understand
each other. So I hope I am me, give birth to children because I like
children, quit because I can't really survive, rather than a simple girl
can't. The character of Tess is very vividly depicted, she has very
excellent qualities, but it is because of her perfection that many
tragedies occur. Her gentle heart leads her not to allow herself to
deceive anyone. No matter how the outcome is, she is the most humanizing
role in my mind. This book also raises the question of how the poor
should live and how they can change their lives against heaven through
their own efforts. In my opinion, the way to change their lives against
heaven is to gain a better life experience through their own
opportunities and efforts. Therefore, the social environment of each
period is different, and the way to treat most people is also different.
We can't ask people in the 19th century to do this through the Internet,
and we certainly can't smuggle our way out of this world. I believe that
the culture given to us by The Times is the fundamental solution to the
problem, and whoever can anticipate the trend and direction of future
development will be able to change his life against heaven and regain a
new life.
