Tess

After reading "Tess of the d'Urbervilles", I was deeply moved
by the main theme of the novel, which revolves around the injustices and
hardships faced by women in Victorian society. The novel illustrates the
challenges and moral struggles of the protagonist, Tess, as she
navigates through a patriarchal society filled with hypocrisy and
inequality. One particular line that resonated with me is when Tess
confronts Angel and exclaims, "O why have you treated me so
monstrously, Angel! I do not deserve it." This line encapsulates
the emotional turmoil and the constant injustice Tess faced. It made me
reflect on the enduring resilience and courage demonstrated by Tess,
despite the relentless hardships she endured. The novel also serves as
a powerful critique of societal norms and double standards, prompting
readers to contemplate the systemic oppression that women faced during
that era. Overall, "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" left a lasting
impression on me, deepening my understanding of the struggles faced by
women in a society that undervalues them.
