The book, Sister Carrie written by Herder Dreiser tells a story about the struggles of a girl who finds her way up to American’s upper class. Carrie, a poor charming country girl who comes to Chicago to realize her own American dream, becomes the mistress of two men, finally deserts them and carve out her own career as a famous actress. The central theme of Sister Carrie is the effect of the misguided and misdirected American dream of success.
