Tess a pure and beautiful peasant girl because of her poor family and went to the "false owner" Jarek only to be defaced by the frivolous Jarek. Lonely Tess met Claire after two people fell in love but in the wedding night because Tess to Claire confided this thing after Claire abandoned. Disheartened Tess once again meets Jarek who has become a preacher and finally can only bend over to him. Did not expect Claire after deep regret to find Tess for love Tess decided to kill Yarek and Claire together to escape to the final arrest was sentenced to die.

After reading the book I couldn't help sighing deeply for Tess. In that so-called " civilized society " good people are hurt while those who commit evil deeds can get away with it. The end result is the victims of a pure and innocent society.

Is this a result of The Times? But at the same time I felt sorry for Tess's love and deeply grieved for Clare's cowardice and determination! Worldly prejudices still exist but would Tess have fared better if she had lived in the present age? This is really unknown.

Hardy describes a woman who dares to boldly pursue and fight for the right to love with a poetic . In her body she flashes the spirit of resistance that dares to break all the shackles of the old etiquette. She stoically bore a series of heavy blows to her life never prayed to the gods in hardships and never gave in to the evil forces. That's what I admire about Tess. However her spirit of resistance is also very incomplete and there is a side of resignation to fate and there is a time to accept everything with an attitude of self-sacrifice. Because they all maintain their hope and happiness on Claire's love it leads to the failure of personal resistance and the collapse of personal pursuit.

In this book I would also like to praise Hardy because he is not only the most vivid portrayal of Tess in shaping other characters Like the irony of Alec falling again after becoming a missionary As the opposite to highlight Tess's purity and goodness through the account of Clare's selfish behavior to reflect Tess's desperate love This delicate technique is really precious.

And at last when the bell rang and the black flag rose slowly from the pole I was deeply silent. It was Tess's death carried out...
