Book Review of Time Machine
黄名硕
The book "Time Machine" consists of 12 chapters with an
ending, with the majority being spoken by the protagonist. It only uses
dialogue at the beginning of the discussion about the fourth dimension,
perhaps to explain this scientific concept in a more relaxed and natural
way. As his debut work "The Time Machine," Wells appeared very
casual in creating the characters he appeared in. He was so casual that
he simply used some professional titles to refer to them, such as
psychologists, doctors, mayors, young people, editors, journalists. The
first two chapters were full of these comic style sketches. Reading the
entire novel, you can't remember the main character's name because for
convenience reasons, The narrator has always referred to him as the
"Time Traveler," and the beginning of the novel states:
"The Time Traveler (which is more convenient to call him) is
explaining a profound problem to us." Humanity and civilization
appear so small on the scale of the universe, so from this perspective,
the desolation seen by Time Travelers may be the inevitable future of
our world. And I think, no matter what the future holds, human warmth
will always leave a trace, just like the white flowers and the traceless
Venus, always leaving a trace in our hearts.
