The Time Machine
刘奕辰
"The Time Machine" is a novella written by the British writer
Herbert George Wells and first published in 1895. This book tells of the
time traveler's invention of a machine that can roam the past and future
at will in time latitude. When he arrived in 802701 AD by machine, he
was presented with a strange and frightening scene.Humans are divided
into two races: the Eloys and the Morlocks. The former group of people
grow delicate and beautiful, losing their ability to work. The latter
type of people have a grim face, work all day long, and are accustomed
to the humid and dark life underground. "They fattened the Lois,
and at night they hunted them everywhere.". The detestable Morlock
people stole the time traveler's machine, and after experiencing some
adventures, the time machine was lost and recovered. During this time,
the time traveler met Verna, a Loyan, who gave him selfless love in this
strange world. Unfortunately, Werner died in the fire. The time traveler
continued his journey and saw some retro landscapes such as Cancer,
Giant Butterfly, Chenghai, and Solar Eclipse tens of millions of years
later. He finally returned to the "present" at the time of his
dying life and told his friends about his travel experience. Soon he
embarked on a second journey of time and never returned. Evolution and
class antagonism are the two core themes of Wells' works, and Time
Machine is centered around them.
