Book Review
廖钰墁
The Chinese Culture Reader, written by Ye Lang and Zhu Liangzhi of
Peking University, is a book to show the spiritual connotation and state
of Chinese culture to the world at the time of the Beijing Olympic
Games. It is also a major road for us to understand Chinese culture.
Reading this book is refreshing. In other words, it not only gives
people a sense of deja vu, because it is the interpretation of the
Chinese culture around our work and life; It also provides us with a new
perspective to review Chinese traditional culture. After reading it, we
can't help but feel that our traditional culture is so meticulous, so
beautiful and exquisite, and so closely related to our ancient working
life. It can be said that through this book, we can peep into the inner
energy of Chinese culture and our own living spiritual world, cultural
temperament, life stance, aesthetic taste. The author of the book
believes that only in-depth knowledge can illuminate the original face
of Chinese culture. For example, in the process of the Temple of Heaven,
no matter its construction style or function, it contains the idea that
Chinese philosophers and thinkers regard heaven as the source of endless
creation of life, which reflects the Chinese people's view of worship
and reverence for heaven, and also reflects the origin of Chinese
traditional political culture. That is, the harmony between man and
nature is always the greatest fantasy in the heart of the Chinese
people. Zhouyi promoted from the Qiankun gua the spirit of "Heaven
is vigorous, man is always striving for self-improvement: the terrain is
earthly, the gentleman is carrying things with kindness". Among
them, "Strive to be strong, carry things with kindness" is the
two aphorisms that Chinese people have observed from generation to
generation. On the one hand, it emphasizes having the spirit of vigorous
and enterprising, on the other hand, it emphasizes being generous and
tolerant, daring to bear the burden like heaven and earth. This forms
the basic characteristics of Chinese culture and determines the creation
and communication in Chinese culture. For example, the Four Great
Creations, the Tang Dynasty, the Great Wall and poetry are the
embodiment of this spirit.
