Book review
林逸舟
The book begins with Watson and Holmes theorizing about Mortimer's
forgotten cane, and continues with the arrival of Dr. Mortimer and the
manuscript he brings with him about the bad luck of the Baskervilles. At
first Sherlock treated it as a legend, but Sir Charles' mysterious death
aroused Sherlock Holmes' interest in the case and he decided to
intervene. As Sherlock has other cases to attend to, he arranges for his
good friend Dr. Watson to return to Baskerville Castle with Sir Henry,
who is preparing to inherit the estate, both to protect Sir Henry and to
better investigate the case. In order to avoid being seen, Shylock hid
in the marsh where there were few people, and secretly observed. At
last, through the tireless investigation of two men, I tried to find out
that the murderer was the Merripuff biologist Stapleton. It turned out
that Stapleton was also a Baskerville, and he was determined to use the
legend of the Hound of the Baskervilles to inherit the family fortune.
He first bought a hound from a dog dealer, and then used Laura to get
Sir Charles to meet him. Finally, Charles was scared to death because of
a heart attack. Baskerville tried to remove his successor Henry in the
same way, but failed in the efforts of Sherlock and others, the plan
failed, and the escape Stapleton eventually died in the swamp. This book
belongs to the Beng school of mystery novels, which mainly focuses on
solving puzzles. Due to the age, the criminal methods in the book are
relatively simple, but the book has rigorous logic, twists and turns,
and the suspense is also in place, which is highly readable.
