A brave man
李海炎
When I was very young, I read the Old Man and the Sea. At the beginning,
I was attracted by the illustrations in the book. After reading it for
three times, I was deeply attracted by the heroic spirit of the old man.
The hero of the novel, Santiago, is not a handsome man, but an
87-year-old man. The old man was thin and haggard, with thin and deep
wrinkles, his hands covered with the scars of fishing, and only his eyes
shone with an unyielding light. The old man was lonely and had no wife
or children. The young fisherman made fun of him, and the old fisherman
felt sorry for him and could not help him. Only a little boy in the
neighborhood liked to spend time with him, but the boy's parents thought
the old man was out of luck and put him in another boat, so he had to go
fishing alone. He had a dream that when many young fishermen were
sailing in their boats near the shore, fishing at sixteen inches, the
old man would sail away alone. Although others often catch fish of
different sizes, he wanted to catch a big fish that everyone else would
envy. He would insist that after eighty-four days alone at sea without
catching a fish, on the eighty-fifth day the old man's line, baited with
a ten-pound herring, stirred, and a great marlin took the bait at a
depth of a hundred inches. The fish was so big that it was three feet
longer than the old man's boat. The fish pulled the old man and the
boat, and it struggled so hard that the old man cut his face; It pulled
the old man out of the mouth of the tiger blood; He pulled for a long
time, and his left hand cramp again... For three days and nights, the
old man plunged his harpoon into the blue and purple body of the fish
and captured the 18-foot-long fish, which weighed more than 1,500
pounds. He never gives up. As the old man tied the big marlin to the
side of the boat to go home, the smell of blood attracted the sharks.
The first, who ate 40 pounds of fish, was harpooned to death by the old
man. The last two ate half the big fish and were killed by the old man
with a knife. A third group of sharks arrived, and the old man was tired
and hungry, bruised and unarmed, and the big marlin had been eaten up as
much as anyone could have at this time
