It is the second time when I finished reading the Scarlet Letter written
by Hawthorne, and I have many new thoughts about this book. What
impresses me most is that the symbolism used in this book. Hawthorne
used symbolism many times in the book, and he gave many sense to the
scarlet letter A. After my detailed reading and deep thinking, I also
find that the scarlet letter A doesn't merely means adultery that Hester
had had in the book. Actually, it has richful meanings. First, I think
the letter A maybe means alone. The heroin of this book Hester has
beautiful appearance and born in a great family , but she was asked to
married an old and disabled man. The old man Roger Chillingrowth has
abundant knowledge, and he often overlooked the true feelings of Hester.
Poor communication makes unfortunate marriage. And Hester's heart was
filled with loneliness and she eager to pursue her happiness. Thus, the
letter A means alone here.
