"Some people think that the old man in the book just caught an
empty skeleton and didn't get anything of value. What do you think of
this view? " "The Old Man and the Sea" tells a story.
An old fisherman in San Diego didn't catch fish for 84 days in a row and
was regarded as a loser by his peers. However, he persisted and finally
caught a big fish. The big fish dragged his boat at sea for three days
and was finally killed by the old man and tied to the other side of the
boat. The old man was repeatedly attacked by sharks on his way home, but
he still had high morale. Like a gladiator, he fought tenaciously in the
cruel arena of the sea and experienced many difficulties and obstacles.
Although the fish caught by the old man had only the head, tail and a
spine on the way home, it did not weaken the strong will of the old man
at all. Some people think that the old man in the book just grabbed an
empty skeleton and didn't get anything valuable. I don't agree with this
view. Travel thousands of miles, go deep into the sea. Just for a fish?
In the final analysis, the real victory of people can only be spiritual
victory. No matter how much material achievements people have made, they
cannot win our lofty respect. And only the victory of spirit and
boldness of vision touched me, and made me cry for his solemn and
stirring just like the children who followed the old man. There is no
denying that as long as people are flawed. When a person admits this
defect and tries to overcome it instead of giving in to it, he is a
winner whether he can finally overcome his own defect or not, because he
has overcome his compromise on defects, and he is the winner of his own
courage and confidence. The old fisherman is the winner who dares to
challenge his own defects and his courage and confidence. From the
perspective of secular victory, the old fisherman is not the final
winner, because although he defeated the big marlin at first, the big
marlin was finally eaten by sharks, and he only returned to the shore
with the bones of the big marlin, that is to say, the sharks were the
winners. However, in the idealist's eyes, the old fisherman is the
winner, because he never gave in to the sea, never gave in to the big
marlin, and never gave in and surrendered to the shark. "A
person can be destroyed, but not defeated." The external body can
be tortured, but the internal will is sacred and inviolable. On the one
hand, falling down is precisely standing up on the other hand. In a
scene like a dream, there is bound to be a victory. This is the soul of
Santiago, and it is also the spiritual level that he will never fall
down anyway. In my opinion, this is the definition of greatness. When
the old man struggles with sharks or bad weather, his spiritual world is
full. I think the real success lies not in what you get at last, but in
the frustrations, mud and unremitting efforts in the whole process of
pursuing success. Therefore, I think the old man's fishing in the sea
not only conquered the big fish, but also broke through himself again
and again, showing his bravery and perseverance to the world and making
the world admire him.
