This is a profound classical tragic novel,as well as a heroic symphony. Hemingway said I tried to write about a real old man,a real boy,a real sea,a real fish and many real sharks. However,if I can write realistically enough, they can also represent many other things."The story describes the old Santiago is an unlucky man,84 days did not catch fish, and other fisherman regard him as a loser. But it seemed to herald the beginning of a battle, and sure enough,on the 85th day,he did find a 1500-pound salmon and was determined to fight even though he knew he was superior. He said to the big fish,''I'm with you to the end!"And finally win. After the old man worked so hard to catch the fish, the test did not end.
The climax of the story is in the process of the old man dragging the fish back, accepting the challenge of the shark again and again, constantly consuming weapons and energy, finally the old man dragged the remains of the big fish back to the shore. The process was very intense.I was impressed that the old man could Pierce the shark's eyes so accurately, and the small broken boat could not be overturned or all the time.I also helped the old man to thank that there was no big storm.
What really struck me,however, was the author's lighthearted ending.Exhausted, the old man went back to his hut and fell asleep.I think he smiled contentedly and dreamed of his lions again.I respect the old man for his courage, tenacity and tenacity, but I really admire the old man for his ability to walk independently in the world without an audience. From start to finish,he is content with his own spirit,he catches the big fish, not for the big fish can sell a good price. He respected his opponent, even regarded him as a friend. He was content with the challenge of catching the big fish and beating the sharks, and every moment he was physically exhausted, but every moment he was happy, and I'm sure it was a kind of happy. There was no audience but himself, and the old man only knew how to please himself. So after the end he put this process of rising,in a kind of flat posture slowly into his dream,do not need to share. How to share?
I had to think about myself and everyone around me.In everything we do,what is it that we really do to please ourselves? We are constantly trying to please others,of course,in order to achieve various kinds of approval from others.
I like Hemingway's"The Old Man and the Sea"very much and I also know that Hemingway's life was full of ups and downs, including war, disease and mental torture. In fact,he was brave again and again, but in the end,he still chose to commit suicide.Maybe he had his own reasons. But it is a pity that he goes against the description of failure and hero in The Old Man and the Sea.
