The garden party

After I read the passage, I think that the short passage is mainly about a girl Laura's epiphany and mental growth.

First, I would like to explain why I say Laura's mental growth. In the opening of the passage, Laura was an artistic person born in a rich family who is preparing an extravagant garden party ,completely didn't know poor people'suffering and people's selfishness in her social class. Then when she met some workers invited to decorate the garden party, she just began to realise that the party might be boring ,the people she would dance with in the party could be boring, but these workers were adorable. But It is the carter Scott's death that truly gave her chance to grow up mentally. And It is also the different attitudes towords to his death between Laura and some other people, especially her friends and her mother that gave her opportunity to find the selfishness and indifference of people and tried to walk away from the rich world into a poor wolrd which her parents always told her never to visit. In the poor world, she found that poor people's difficulty and kindness. She had her own different thought about the poor world through her observation rather than her mother and relatives 's biased words.

Second, It's about her epiphany. At the end, when Laura faced the dead, she was moved by the peace and beauty of the dead. In a sense, through the contact with death, Laura had completely recovered from her dream world and entered the real world, realizing the true meaning of things. In Lara, "Mansfield has made it clear that life and death can co-exist, and that their co-existence in the same world may be beautiful".
