The truth about any part of the universe is subject to their relation to the truth about the rest of the universe. And the interconnectedness of all truths is at the heart of Newman's ideal of the educated. "The true enlargement of the mind," he wrote, "is the capacity to regard many things as one at the same time, to put them separately into their true place in the cosmic system, to understand their respective values, and to determine their interdependence." If a university is to foster such complete knowledge, each of the arts and sciences needs to take seriously the insights of all the others. Since the relationship with god is the most important in human relations, no university can fulfill its task of pursuing comprehensive knowledge if the knowledge of god cannot be part of the background of all other knowledge. And each discipline has a specific discipline thinking mode, the emphasis on this discipline thinking mode is easy to ignore the thinking mode of other disciplines. For example, economists see the economy as a basic to an understanding of human experience, psychologists focuses on analyzing the person's psychology, biologists argue that everything is made up of cells, sociologists will simplify the whole society for the social strata and structure, the thinking mode of the chemist is based on elements and chemical reaction of thinking, in the physicists of all things is always believe. There is little communication between subjects, and experts in different subjects cannot understand each other. In this case it is impossible to have a complete understanding of anything.
