——A Review of The old man and the sea

It was a quiet story, without complex society and crowds. There was just an old man who struggled in the sea. He fought with the marlin, the hordes of sharks and the bad weather. The most important, he fought with himself. “A man is not made for being defeated, a man can be destroyed but not defeated.” This is the old man's lifelong belief.

The story was about an old Cuban fisherman Santiago. He had been not catching a fish for eighty-four days. Finally he caught a big marlin alone. But this fish is really big, dragged his boat on the sea for three days before it was exhausted. Then the old man killed it and tied it to the side of the boat. On the way of returning to home, he was attacked by a shark, which left him only the head, the tail and a backbone of the fish. In the days when he was at sea, his young friend had been waiting for him on the coast.

Santiago tried his best to prove his power, but eventually he didn’t escape from the pain of defeat. However, there was another thing that would shine forever.

What does failure mean? The failure is to summon up courage to stand up again after falling. Never lost the hope of life, and never lose the dream of future. What does hero mean? Heroes are those who dare to face and overcome setbacks. They have the courage to achieve their dreams that they may have failed many times.

Life is gentle without fear of fate. And the fire of the spirit will last forever, especially in deep darkness.
